About Nodar, Christos and Damien
Hi, we are Nodar, Christos and Damien, the founders of Synth – a Y Combinator backed start-up based in London – prior to starting Synth we worked in the same team at a quant hedge fund. We are, all three of us, privacy enthusiasts and we strongly believe in the value of open-source software.
About Synth
At Synth we are building open-source tools to enable developers build better and more privacy aware software. Our first product Synth allows for seamless generation of synthetic data that can be used in development and testing instead of sensitive user data.
What made you start your company?
Great team with a shared vision – having this in place we thought it would be a mistake not to start a company.
What is the dream for your company?
We dream for Synth to enable businesses and governments strike the right balance between progress, innovation and protection of our individual rights for privacy.
What drives you to make your company a success?
We believe that privacy is a fundamental human right.
What makes your firm truly unique?
We don’t pretend to be unique, but one of the important values for us as a company is this: we believe that everyone should be given the opportunity to be their best self at work, people should enjoy their work (for the most part) and get inspired by it. For us this is not just talk – we live by this and try to weave that into our culture every step of the way.
Has the pandemic made you re-evaluate any aspects of your company?
The current pandemic forced us to embrace and adapt to remote-friendliness faster than we would have otherwise.
What is the greatest challenge you faced when starting up your company?
There were a few challenges such as initial leap of faith, switching gears from working for someone to becoming entrepreneur and entering a new unknown and a different world with its own rules and playbooks.
What sort of leader do you aspire to be?
We aspire to be leaders who empower others to be their best selves, cultivate freedom of expression and diversity of opinions and worldviews.
What’s the most important life lesson Covid has taught you?
COVID-19 taught us to be adaptable, have a great playbook and get comfortable with being uncomfortable.
